HOST: Welcome to Stories for Power, where we dive into the stories that shape movements, change minds, and spark action. I’m [Your Name], and today we’re talking with Amina Carter, a longtime civil rights organizer who has been at the forefront of the fight for justice. Amina, welcome to the show.
[00:00:25]
AMINA: Thanks for having me. I love what you’re doing here—stories really do have power, and I think that’s something people forget when they’re caught up in the day-to-day struggle.
[00:00:40]
HOST: Absolutely. Let’s start at the beginning. What first led you to activism? Was there a particular moment or experience that set you on this path?
[00:01:00]
AMINA: Yeah, actually. I grew up in a small town where injustice was just… normal. I remember being 15 and seeing my older cousin get arrested for something he didn’t do. That moment—it changed everything for me. I started reading about the Civil Rights Movement, attending community meetings, and eventually, I realized that if I wanted things to change, I had to be part of making that change happen.
[00:02:10]
HOST: That’s powerful. And now, you’re working on a campaign for police accountability. What’s been the biggest challenge in that fight?
[00:02:25]
AMINA: There are so many. The biggest? People in power don’t give it up willingly. Every policy change we fight for, every reform we propose, it’s met with resistance. But history shows us that pressure works. Organizing works. And when enough people share their stories—when enough people stand together—systems have no choice but to shift.
[00:03:00]
HOST: That’s exactly why we’re here—stories aren’t just narratives, they’re fuel for change. Amina, if you could tell people listening one thing about how they can make a difference, what would it be?
[00:03:15]
AMINA: Start where you are. Whether it’s showing up at a town hall, sharing a story on social media, or simply having a conversation with someone who doesn’t see the world the way you do—change begins with connection.
[00:03:35]
HOST: I love that. Thank you, Amina, for sharing your insights and your story with us today. And to our listeners—remember, the right story can change everything. We’ll see you next time on Stories for Power.
